George Samuel Heath & Emma Atkinson Family

This page is devoted to all of the documents and records collected for the George S Heath family. George married Emma Atkinson in 1888 and had several children with her. Emma died in 1898 leaving George with five small children and he could not cope. The children were farmed out to relatives and George spent some time in the State Hospital. In 1905 he went to Missouri, presumably to see his brother Jeff, and while there he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Philippines during the "Morro War" and when they returned he was stationed at Fort Douglas in Utah. He mustered out in 1908. Between 1908 and 1910 he returned to Kansas and married a widow Lydia Mulkey and opened a restaurant. There is no mention of Lydia in later years. In the 1925 Wichita directory it mentions that George has moved back to Towanda and left a third wife (another Emma) in Wichita. His death certificate says he was a widower. So far attempts to locate him in the 1920 & 1930 census have failed. George died in 1933 and is buried in the Towanda Cemetery.
