John Jerome Reider (Sr.) & Irene Elizabeth Carroll Family
This page is devoted to all of the documents and records collected for the John Jerome Reider Sr. family. John was born in Paterson, NJ but moved to California with his family in 1909 when his grandfather, Anton Buehler died. In 1921 he met a young lady of Irish descent named Irene Elizabeth Carroll and they were married. Two children followed with son John Jerome in 1923 and Mary Louise in 1925. By 1930 their relationship was a rocky one made worse by John's drinking. Irene filed for divorce in 1936 but there is no evidence she completed the process. Although not formally divorced (divorce was initiated but a search of divorces has not yet shown an actual final divorce), they separated and John rarely saw his children again. He died of alcoholism in 1938. John Jr and Mary spent a lot of their young lives with their maternal grandparents Thomas and Irene Carroll. Irene Reider eventually remarried and their stepfather, Riley Price, treated the children as his own.

Irene Carroll Birth Certificate - This is a copy of her Baptismal Certificate
Marriage Certificate - John and Irene were married in 1921. I have a picture of their wedding day but have been unable to find a marriage certificate.
Marriage Certificate - Irene's 2nd marriage to Riley Price. She was married in Mexico and the certificate is in Spanish. For some reason, she altered the date at top to read 1934.
John's Quitclaim to Jerome for Raymond House Interest - House was originally owned by John's maternal grandfather Anton Buehler.
Irene files for divorce This is a notice of filing for divorce cut I am unable to find a record of it being granted.
John J Reider Death Certificate - He died of alcoholism in 1938.
Receipts - These are receipts for John's funeral. They are made out to Louise who is the wife of John's brother Jerome S. Reider
No Probate - There was no probate as there was no estate. John died basically penniless.
Family Letter - Letter written to husband of Carrie Reider who had died. It mentions death of John.
